Taller than is typical today, this hat is exactly what was worn in original photos of Bat as well as Butch and Sundance.  An Americanized bowler.  Don't hit someone with this hat.  It's heavy and hard.  

Bat was photographed in New York, where he became a celebrity sports reporter, wearing a sand or silverbelly derby exactly like ours.  That photo is one of the more frequently published photos of him.
