The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Lee Marvin was one of the best actors ever if you ask me. He won an Oscar for his two roles in Cat Ballou. I think Lee Marvin was even better as Liberty Valance. He stole every scene he was in, even when opposing John Wayne. The name of the movie makes it clear Liberty Valance was the key character.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance co-starred John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Lee Marvin. Jimmy Stewart arrived on set with his favorite hat after the director had been pondering how to dress Jimmy Stewarts character and what to use. The director, John Ford, said absolutely not to Jimmy’s hat and overreacted by saying “No hat.” Jimmy Stewart only wore the big plantation hat as the Elder Senator.
Liberty's hat was interesting in that the leather hat band looks similar to that of Clint Eastwood in the three "Spaghetti Westerns". That would be an option but we make one with a more accurate pattern installed over a 1" ribbon just like Lee Marvin had.
We also sew the leather stampede string into the hat as per Liberty Valance.
