Russell Crowe as Ben Wade in the new version of 3:10 to Yuma wore
a very common style in the 1860's to 1880's except that he had a
unique hat band. The low telescope crown and smallish brim was
even worn by many confederate troops in the civil war. But, I must say
that it never looked so good as with this unique band and worn by
Russell Crowe.
In 3:10 to Yuma Russell Crowe played a very serious and a very bad
guy (with a spark of good) and his hat worked very well to reinforce
that character. If you haven't seen the new 3:10 to Yuma yet, you
should. It's a very good story and Russell Crowe really delivered for
us in his portrayal of Ben Wade. I got the original 3:10 to Yuma with
Glenn Ford as Ben Wade and watched it for comparison. There is
more action in the new 3:10, but Glen Ford was a natural for that part
and he too had a very distinguishing hat. Both movies had good
acting, good filming, and excellent hats. What more do you really
need?
There is another custom hat maker that claims to have made the
movie hat. That statement is not very credible when you look at his
replica. The crown is too tall, the brim is too large and the band is not
the same. His price is more than double ours! WOW!
